Percent identity with other species by BLAST analysis: Human, Gorilla, Gibbon, Monkey, Marmoset, Mouse, Rat, Bovine, Bat, Hamster, Elephant, Panda, Horse, Rabbit, Pig, Opossum, Turkey, Chicken (100%); Platypus, Xenopus (95%); Lizard (80%). For IHC(P), use heat induced antigen retrieval in pH 6.0 citrate buffer. After incubation with the primary antibody, slides were incubated with biotinylated secondary antibody, followed by alkaline phosphatase-streptavidin and chromogen. WNK is a serine/threonine kinase that plays an important role in the regulation of electrolyte homeostasis, cell signaling, survival, and proliferation. Also, acts as an activator and inhibitor of sodium-coupled chloride cotransporters and potassium-coupled chloride cotransporters respectively. Activates SCNN1A, SCNN1B, SCNN1D, and SGK1. WNK localizes to a segment of kidney involved in salt, potassium, and pH homeostasis, the distal nephron. Mutations in the WNK gene result in Pseudohypaldosteronism and Neuropathy.
